The CMeX13S model by Elvaco is an M-Bus master that increases the maximum number of meters from compatible M-Bus gateways to 256. As a fundamental component of the M-Bus meter remote reading infrastructure, the CMeX13S uses a unique IR pass-through feature that allows data to be transmitted to the M-Bus gateway without the need to install additional cables.

CMeX13S M-Bus Master for 256 meters

CMeX13S is an M-Bus Master which, by providing additional drive strength, extends the number of meters a CMe Series Gateway is able to use. The product is equipped with a unique IR Pass Through feature which enables up to four CMe/CMeX Series devices to communicate via IR, by stacking them side-by side. CMeX13S also supports integration with existing M-Bus systems through RS232.

The electronics of the CMeX13S M-Bus Master for 256 meters are housed in a durable, robust polyamide casing to ensure fault-free operation. The M-Bus Master is mounted on a standard 35 mm DIN rail. This makes the device easy to install with minimal effort. 

The user interface of the CMeX13S M-Bus Master for 256 meters consists of four coloured LED lights that provide a simple, direct visualisation of the current status of the device. The green LED shows that the M-Bus Master is powered on, while the red LED indicates that there is an error message preventing the device from functioning properly. The two yellow LEDs light up to indicate that M-Bus data is currently being transmitted from or to the M-Bus Master.

Connections and Interfaces


The CMeX13S model is a high-quality, reliable M-Bus Master that acts as a connection point for up to 256 M-Bus meters. It uses a unique pass-through feature based on IR technology that enables up to four CMe/CMeX series devices stacked side by side to be combined.

For the M-Bus meters downstream of the M-Bus Master, the cable length is also increased by 5 km. The CMeX13S M-Bus Master for 256 meters is compatible with all meters with M-Bus technology, all ABB meters with IR interfaces and all CMe/CMeX series devices produced by Elvaco. The CMeX13S M-Bus Master for 256 meters also offers compatibility with existing M-Bus systems via RS232.
